Tampa Chapter FNGLA Meet-Up at Trade Show

Growers and Landscapers, you are invited to a FNGLA Tampa Bay Chapter Meet Up – Friday, September 16 at 10 a.m. at The Landscape Show.

Meet your fellow FNGLA Chapter members and catch up with friends. Please join the local chapter members at The Connection Corner inside the exhibit hall (upper right corner as you walk in) on Friday at 10 a.m. for a quick get together. It’s an opportunity for chapter members to meet and catch up.

Future Tree Use, Tradeshow, and Landscape Architects Class

What do all these things have in common?  A Hillsborough County Extension new class venture bridging the gap between growers, landscape architects and city planners on expectations of how, when, why, and where trees should be used.  The class "Tree Selection and Changing Urban Demands" is a fresh perspective on the future City of Tampa's Urban tree plan and what that will mean to growers and landscape architects.  Dr. Ed Gillman will look at tree grades and standards using real trees in a nursery as examples.  I will discuss how trees are grown in the area, how long it takes, and where to find plant material availabilities.  Mr. Rob Northrop will discuss the City of Tampa Urban Tree plan and what changes will be taking place as a model system for future municipalites.  We will then have an open discussion including City of Tampa Natural Resources to talk about opportunities and challenges for all involved.  Area growers are welcome to bring plants to the mini-tradeshow for landscape architects to view.  We will have FNGLA CEUs and LA CEUs available.  We will also have regionally famous JP's BBQ served for dinner as well.  This alone is almost worth the price of the class.  Only 50 seats available so hurry and get yours reserved!

Tampa Spring Expo 2012

Just wanted to remind you of the upcoming Tampa Spring Expo. It is early this year which is great for the weather we are having.  The show will take place at the State Fair Grounds in Tampa on February 1st and 2nd. This is a good time to try and drum up some sales, catch up on all the latest happenings with your fellow industry members, and share some camaraderie with your friends.

The event will also culminate with the plant auction on the 20th before the trade show ends. Any participants can donate their booth to the TBWG and we will auction it off. It is a great chance to purchase plants at deep discounts. This is a great opportunity for landscapers and retailers! The money raised will be donated to UF/IFAS Share for horticultural research and Hillsborough County Environmental Horticulture Extension Program.

Tampa Spring Expo and Booth Auction

It is that time of year again. The Tampa Bay Wholesale Growers Spring Expo is right around the corner. The show opens on Friday Feb. 25, 2011. Check out what is new at the local nurseries. In an age where everthing is done electronically or by mobile device it is nice to go and put a face with a name and shake a hand. Along with the Expo is the booth auction. Vendors donate their entire booth and allied members donate items to be auctioned off on Saturday at 1:00 pm. Proceeds from the Tampa Spring Expo are pledged to SHARE's FNGLA Endowed Research Fund at the University of FL and to educational Programs of the Hillsborough County Cooperative Extension Service Horticultural Programs. The Tampa Bay Wholesale Growers has contributed over $50,000 to the FNGLA Endowed Research Fund collected from this auction and is the second largest contributor behind FNGLA. Tampa Spring Expo

For educaton there will be the Tree and Landscape Short Course on the 19th. With good information on irrigation, landscaping, and core topics.
