Lake Region Chapter Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association Annual Chili Cookoff

The Lake Region Chapter of the FNGLA is hosting its Annual Chili Cookoff and CEU event on February 4, 2025 at the Polk County Extension Office in the Valencia Room.  The cost of the event is $10.00.  The event will start at 6:00 pm with social time and your best pot of chili tasting.  Dinner will be followed with a Core Pesticide CEU in conjunction with a talk on "Minimizing Environmental Impact of Pesticide Applications; Methods and New EPA Rules.  The talk will be given by Dr. Caitlin Sollazo- the new Ornamental Production Extension Agent in Manatee County and Shawn Steed, the Environmental Horticulture Extension Agent serving Hillsborough and Polk Counties. 

Prizes will be awarded to the best chili!

Lake Region FNGLA, Chili, and CEUs

How does Lake Region FNGLA, chili, and CEUs go together.  Stop by and find out.  The Lake Region FNGLA will be having their February meeting at the Polk County Extension Office.  They will also be hosting their first chili cookoff fundraiser.  It will be $5.00 to enter your winning chili.  While you are eating and judging chili you can get a Private Applicator Pesticide CEU for free.  The class will be entitled Pre-Emergent Herbicides for Ornamentals-Use and Efficacy.  If you'd like to attend please call Karen Norris at 863-644-6491.

FNGLA Lake Region Meeting

The Lakes Region Meeting will be having the first meeting of the 2012-13 year.  The meeting will be at Mid-Florida Nursery (2324 County Line Road, Plant City, FL) on June 5, 2012 starting at 5:00 with dinner at 6:30 pm.  At this meeting we will be swearing in officers and Board of Directors.  We will also be having  the famous "Rumph Roasted" Boston butt for dinner, specially prepared by Bruce Rumph.  If you would like to attend please give Karen Peterson a call 863-644-6491 or email lakeregionfngla@juno.org by June 1st.  Don't forget to bring something for the raffle.

Dinner with Lake Region FNGLA and a Core CEU

The Lake Region FNGLA Chapter is hosting a dinner meeting and a CEU in conjunction with Polk County Extension on February 9, 2012. The meeting will take place at 6:00 PM at the Polk County Extension office in Bartow Florida. If you'd like to eat dinner and join in the FNGLA meeting, $15 will be taken at the door. The CEU portion of the meeting will start at 7:00 PM and end at 8:00 PM. One core CEU will be available. FNGLA Lakes Region Meeting 4/7/09

We met last week on April 7, 2009 at Common Ground Park in Lakeland. The park is located on the corner of Edgewood Drive and across from Cleveland Heights Golf Course, on Lake Hollingsworth. It was a beautiful park. It is a one acre, all-inclusive park. It came with a million dollar price tag which was picked up mostly from donations. It really is a work of art. There are three different age levels of play for children and the park is designed for any child with physical limitations or wheel chairs. If you have children or are a child at heart you should check it out. I have two rave reviews of the park from my own children and two thumbs up from my wife.

At the business meeting we discussed new officers (I am now a Board member) and we awarded the FFA students their trophies. There are two teachers looking for plant donations to plant a arboretum for all the plant species for the identification parts of the FFA contests. Cull plants will be just fine.
